I really wanted to acknowledge T'Pring, for some reason, and how her surviving family might cope with "we agreed to marry our daughter to the son of a very powerful family, and she died."
Vulcans have always struck me as a clannish people, and a lot of the clan structure might be what has survived the destruction: if there are roles within a clan based on relative ages and blood relations, you can just go down the lines, fill things out as you can, and keep moving forward. I tried to convey some of that, here, between the lines.
